History
The Glasgow Natural History Society is a registered charity (SC012586) with more than 240 members living in Glasgow, the West of Scotland, other parts of the UK and overseas.
The origins of the Society go back to July 1851, when the Natural History Society of Glasgow (NHSG) was founded by nine "gentlemen interested in the pursuit of natural science". Today, the Society is organised by a Council elected by members.
The Society arranges a full programme of events throughout the year in Glasgow and district and occasionally further afield. These are at both specialist and popular level, designed to bring together the amateur and the professional, the expert and the beginner.
The Society has an excellent natural history library, publishes its own journal and newsletter and provides grants for the study of natural history.
